Magical Microphones, Creepy Winks and Sexist Horror Films

Imagine this.
You're watching anything from your favorite movie or TV show to something that's sucks so terribly bad you can't tear your eyes away. Something tragic happens and someone (who always seems to be taller) comforts the grieving party.
That tall, sympathetic person pulls that mostly liklely crying individual, who is almost always female inot his/her arms, wrinkles his/her brow appropriately and looks upward.
What I'm wondering is... What the heck is this person looking at? Floating pies? Invading aliens? Or does the microphone held by the boom operator have some magical power that mesmerizes all who look at it?
And what bothers me the most is the amount of time he/she spends looking into what the audience is to assume is an ordinary ceiling or the same blue sky we all see.
Can I blame this all on bad acting? Or am I the one who subconsciously picks shows that specifically features bad actors and scripts?
Either way this got me thinking about little quirks I've noticed in the programs I watch.
Like the wink with an open mouth and unnecessary shoulder movements. But to be fair, my wink is on the creepy, hide your children side. Somehow I scrunch up half my face and hardly ever manage to close just one eye.
Then there is the soooo fake falls over conveniently placed rock, perfectly straight rugs and the twisting of ankles while something or someone  scary is chasing the screaming, pleading intenteded victim whose makeup remains flawless despite the tears and snot. Again, why are these people mostly female? Might I say sexism?
And don't get me started on bad killing scenes, unconvincing fights and decidedly unfunny jokes and corny lines.
Maybe I'm overthinking this but my only explanation is that I'm an over thinker. Go figure, huh?
After this rant, I'll probably go watch a cheap looking movie on Syfy.
So this post was basically a waste of time because I will continue to watch those same crappy movies and shows with the same crappy acting.
*sigh*
